So-Called Gaming Drug Promises Players an Edge
Play.TM notes that Tomarni, a German company, has announced the release of a supplement marketed as providing an edge to professional (or at least hardcore) videogame players. FpsBrain aims to be the mental equivalent of Gatorade for gamers. One of the active ingredients is caffeine. From the FAQ:
Can FpsBrain be used as a substitute for coffee or energy drinks?
Yes, many clients have reduced their consumption of coffee or energy-drinks and use FpsBrain as a substitute. Unlike refreshments or energy drinks that contain caffeine, FpsBrain does not result in nervousness, shaky hands or a caffeine flash, but helps the computer player to efficiently concentrate throughout the game. FpsBrain releases its active ingredients constantly for 6 hours maximum into the body.
It also contains selenium, Vitamin C, and several other non-narcotic ingredients. Marketing has resulted in the product garnering the nickname, “gaming drug.” Play.TM notes the product was developed in collaboration with Berlin’s Free University, though few other details are given.
